About Thailand

Thailand, often referred to as 'The Land of Smiles', is a tropical country in Southeast Asia with a rich history, culture and cuisine, with a population of over 60 million people.

Most Thais are Buddhist although the far south has a sizeable Muslim minority. The Thai people are renowned for being exceptionally tolerant, rarely displaying anger and emotions in public.

Traditionally, people greet each other not with a handshake but with a prayer-like gesture known as a wai.

This gentle Thai culture produces women with high moral values and a strong sense of commitment to their families. Thai women are raised to be loyal and supportive wives. But that's not unusual in a culture where people are expected to put the interests of others before their own.

As everyone knows, Thai women are exceptionally beautiful and elegant among Asian women - just look at the number of international beauty pageant winners over the years from Thailand. But Thai women are not only exotically feminine, they are intelligent and mature as well - one reason why so many feel more comfortable with a male partner who is anywhere from ten to thirty years older.

Of course, there are always the exceptions. It can't be denied that in the past Bangkok had a somewhat dubious reputation as "Sin City". However, times have changed and much has been done over the years to rid both the city and country of that stigma. The Bangkok, indeed Thailand, of the 21st Century is a far more sophisticated place.

In short, Thai women have cheerful and pleasing personalities. They are playful with their husbands and loving, compassionate, and devoted to their children. One cannot help be impressed with the kindness of the Thai people, the strong sense of family values, and the close affection between all family members.
